The videos I've shared are part of an ongoing series that started in 2012 and that's a sort of personal sidebar, a yearly ritual that doesn't always immediately result in a finished product but that I always make images for, at sunrise every January 1. The visual style of handheld stuttershot timelapse is cribbed fully from Jonas Mekas, and it's a meditative filmmaking practice for me. It's the only thing I do anymore that hearkens back to where I started as an artist, making 16mm films as an undergrad at the University of Colorado, studying with Phil Solomon and in the great void left there by Stan Brakhage. I've moved on in a lot of ways, left the cloisters of that particular genre of film, but that framework still grounds a lot of my aesthetic sensibility.
