Euclid’s Lament

Earlier this year I made some drawings inspired by Oliver Byrne’s The Elements of Euclid. I was interested in the poetic nature of Byrne’s images made to describe geometric axioms. And I connected them to the Purcell aria Dido’s Lament sung by Jessye Norman which reflected the current moment to me.  I was also comforted because when you read the Greeks you realize nothing is new or surprising, and despite everything the world persists.
